For years, the south part of Wichita has been without adequate fire protection. One of Councilman Skelton's major goals was the building of a fire station in the South City area. In 2009, the hard work became a reality, with the completion of Station 22.
The Hydraulic and Wassall fire station is providing a 4-minute response time to a long time underserved area known as South City. Councilman Skelton gives his thanks to the many citizens that helped advocate for this long-time need.
Interesting Statistics About Fire Station 22
- Since Station 22 opened in August of 2009, Engine 22 is the busiest Fire Engine in Wichita, averaging more than 6 calls each day.
- The top five incident types Station 22 is dispatched to are: a sick person, an injury auto accident, difficulty breathing, a fall, and a house fire.
- Saturday is the busiest day of the week for calls at Station 22; nearly 16% of their calls happen on Saturday.
- Tuesday and Wednesday are tied for the least busy day; 13% of Station 22 calls happen on each of those days.
- The busiest time of day for Station 22 is from 2 PM to 7 PM, accounting for 35% of their calls; 24% of their calls happen between midnight and 6 AM.
